$Bethlehem, Pa. Lehigh Valley Headquarters on Brighton St. R. Bach wrote: My understanding is that this smaller of the two LVRR buildings at Bethelehem was originally built as the E.P. Wilbur Trust Co. Bank. E.P. (Elisha Packer) Wilbur was the nephew of of the Lehigh Valley Railroad Builder Asa Packer. Wilbur\'s Mansion is across Brighton St (today the Masonic Temple). Wilbur was the power behind the Lehigh Valley through the 1880\'s and 90\'s until JP Morgan thrust out the Packer\'s. Around the turn of the century, the Wilbur Bank moved and so the Lehigh & New England Railroad offices were in the smaller of th two buildings until 1961-62 when the building was sold to the Lehigh Valley in order for the Valley to expand its offices which were housed in the Valley\'s New York Division Building next door. which dates to the 1880\'s. Later LVRR Corporate and Executive (President and Board room) offices, which use to be in New York and Philadelphia migrated here. In the 50\'s or 60\'s the top floor was made square with brick having originally been a Mansard roof style. Mansard roof is where the dormer windows are in a slanted roof, Mansard style was very popular style of archetecture in the 1870\'s in France. It seems French builders did it to save residents on taxes since the French Governement taxed by floors in the house. In this case you can\'t tax a roof which is what the very high Mansard roof was billed as. The Mansard was very popular too in Eastern Pennsylvania. Sadly these victorian structures are on the first to be demolished lists since many of them are factory offices, cross road hotels, aging public and parochial buildings. It is one of my favorite styles. Lehigh Valley Railroad brick stations at Bethlehem (1869?-1923), Coplay, Pa.(1871-1984) and to some degree Athens, Pa. and most especially the wood LVRR station at Phillipsburg NJ are of this style. Meanwhile the other LVRR the old Division office building at Bethelehem was similiar to much of the other LVRR station archetecture thought to be influenced by LVRR engineer Robert Sayre. Sayre\'s home stands next to Wilbur\'s in Bethlehem. Today Sayre\'s Home is a bed and breakfast and it is here that Sayre\'s daughter grew up and went to marry Woodrow Wilson\'s son at a White House Wedding.$

$Mt. Carmel, Pa. Station. Credit: Jeff Kanezo Mark D says: Yes, the LVRR used this station, as well as the Pennsy. I don\'t know who built it, but the architecture is reminiscent of LV stations in Weatherly and Montrose. Until the mid to late 40\\\'s, the LV and PRR ran a daylight train between Phillipsburg, NJ and Pittsburgh. Mt. Carmel was the point where the train changed over from LV to PRR or vice versa. It ran via Sunbury, Williamsport, Lock Haven, meeting the Pennsy main at Tyrone.$

$Rush, N.Y. Station and Mill Dam, 1910. Pete Hart Says: The mill burned in 1948, and the millstone remains here in Rush Veterans\' Memorial Park. This was the site of the spectacular train wreck during the Rush Memorial Day Parade of 1967, a picture of which is elsewhere on this site.$

$This is the LV station in Spencer, NY. It burned on the night of Aug. 6-7, 1900 in one of Spencer\'s largest ever fires. Everything in the photo was destroyed. I have somewhere a drawing of this depot when it was the GI&A station. Only the left side was built then. If you notice, the shingles go horizontally on the left (south) side, and vertically on the north side. I am sure this was the addition. I do not know when it was built. The depot was in the middle of the village and after it\'s burning, the RR wanted to make a central location for this rr and the EC&N. It was farther away from the center of town. You have a photo of it. It was built in 1906. It was torn down in 1982 by Conrail. I can tell you we in Spencer were not very happy. We wanted the building as a museum. They came like a thief in the night and it was really foggy. They tore it down on us. Submitted by: Robert Snyder.$

Interesting site, my grandfather Charles E. Strasburg of Bethleham, PA worked for the LVRR for several years before passing away April 1924. My dad Elmer C. Strasburg of Hazelton, PA also worked for LVRR repairing the rails and replacing the ties. My dad got me interested in railroading.

I recently went inside of an abandoned Passenger Station that I believe was part of the old Lehigh Valley Railroad. There were a decent amount of relics left behind from the 1960s-70s including a large cargo scale, ticket booth windows, tile walls, stairwell with railings, newspaper clippings taped to the walls. My dad worked LV RR for 47 years. I worked about six months NS RETURNED TO THE US NAVY. From what I remember the yard covered about 400 acres. The Black Diamond train went through Manchester @1145AM.
